How to Make a Greek Frappe
If you’re looking for the next yummy iced coffee recipe to try, this Greek frappe is absolutely delicious and so easy to make. You only need instant coffee, sugar, water and milk. Let me show you how to make it.
Jump to RecipeI first heard of a Greek frappe on TikTok. A few people had posted making one, and it looked so easy to make! After being influenced by TikTok, I had to do my own research to see how Greek frappes were TRULY made. I came across this recipe from My Greek Dish and altered it a little to make my own perfect drink. To me, a little bit of milk is always a good addition to iced coffee, so I added more milk than what the traditional “Me gala” version of a Greek frappe calls for, and the result was delicious.
Whip the instant coffee
Start creating your Greek frappe by putting 2 tsp instant coffee, 2 tsp granulated sugar, and 2 tsp water into a tall drinking glass. Use a hand-held frother to whip the coffee mixture until it’s foamy and caramel brown in colour.
Add the ice, milk and water
Then, add about 1/3 cup ice cubes to the whipped coffee. Add a couple teaspoons of milk to the coffee, and then top the rest of the glass off with cold water. Normally, I’d top off my entire iced coffee with milk, but this smaller amount of milk, then the water makes this iced coffee taste truly refreshing.
Greek Frappe variations
According to My Greek Dish, there are a few traditional variations of the Greek Frappe that you can play with:
- “Sketos”: omitting the sugar and milk altogether, so it’s only coffee, ice and water.
- “Metrios”: an equal amount of coffee and sugar (like I’m using in my version).
- “Glykos”: doubling the sugar (so 2 tsp instant coffee with 4 tsp sugar, for example).
- “Me gala”: adding milk to the coffee.
